Frequently Asked Questions
-
Sew PGH is a community for sewists, makers, menders, and creative people in the Pittsburgh region. We host meetups, fabric swaps, retreats, Frocktails, and other events that help people connect through a shared creative hobby.
-
Not at all.
We welcome people at every experience level, from complete beginners to lifelong makers. Whether you've made one project or one hundred, there's a place for you here.
-
Absolutely.
Many people attend their first Sew PGH event without knowing anyone. In fact, one of our favorite things is watching new friendships form.
If you're nervous about attending for the first time, you're not alone.
-
Sew PGH welcomes adults of all ages and experience levels.
Our community includes people in their 20s through their 70s and beyond, though many of our regular participants are Millennials and Gen Xers.
What tends to connect people isn't age—it's a shared interest in making things, learning from one another, and building community.
Whether you're just getting started, returning to sewing after a break, or have been sewing for decades, you'll find people who share your interests.
-
You're still welcome.
Many community members go through busy seasons where they aren't sewing much—or at all. You don't need to be actively making projects to participate in events or conversations.
-
All kinds.
Garment sewing, quilting, embroidery, visible mending, cosplay, bag making, historical costuming, home décor, fiber arts, and creative experiments are all welcome.
-
No! Some people attend multiple events every month. Others come once or twice a year. There's no minimum level of participation required.
Join in when it works for you.
-
Sew PGH does not have paid memberships or annual dues.
Some events may have ticket costs to cover venue, food, lodging, or supplies, but there is no fee to be part of the community.

In general, we're most likely to promote events that:
Align with Sew PGH's values of inclusion, creativity, and community
Are open to the public
Provide clear event information
Give people opportunities to connect with others
Community-hosted events, workshops, meetups, and partnerships are all welcome for consideration.
Because we're volunteer-run, we can't guarantee promotion of every event. We may also choose not to promote events that don't align with our mission or community guidelines.
If you'd like us to consider promoting your event, please contact us at least two weeks in advance and include event details, a graphic, and any information you'd like shared.
